Do Good Diapers logo.jpgPeter Allen is here from Do Green Diapers to tell us all about the benefits of cloth diapers.  His cloth diaper delivery service delivers fresh, clean cloth diapers to your door once a week.  It could not be any easier to do the GREEN thing!  Listen to the interview to hear Peter take us through his 4 C's of cloth diapering.

  • Comfort - As Peter points out, adults don't wear plastic pants and neither should your kid!  Cloth diapers are made from cotton and studies have shown babies have less diaper rash and discomfort in cloth diapers.
  • Conservation - Almost 20 billion disposable diapers are thrown away annually.  One child in disposable diapers will require 20 trees, 420 gallons of petroleum and generate one ton of garbage.  Cloth diapers can be reused again and again and with new water conserving washing machines, the water used to clean them is negligible.
  • Convenience - The new generation of cloth diapers are just as easy to use as disposables.  Plus kids that are cloth diapered tend to potty train almost a full year before kids who wear disposable diapers.
  • Cost - Cloth diapers are less expensive.  You can save anywhere from $1000 to $2000 per child.  If you have another child wear the cloth diapers, you save even more!

Richard Buendorf is here from Solar Midwest to talk about how to add some sun to your darkest places with Solatubes!

Light Green Tip #418 -Recycle Your Glass

Recycling Fun Fact: Mining and transporting raw materials for glass produces about 385 pounds of waste for every ton (2000 lbs.) of glass that is made. If recycled glass is substituted for half of the raw materials, this waste is cut by more than 80 percent.  In 2008, Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling collected 5,884 tons of glass for recycling.
