Green Tips and Info:
Green Tip #982 - Buy Food from Bulk Bins
You can often get foods from bulk bins, whether that's candy, bagels, rice or honey. Choosing this option will save packaging waste, and you can get exactly how much you want.
Packaging materials make up more than 30 percent of all consumer waste, according to the EPA. So making a dent in all those boxes, cans and piles of plastic wrap will have a real impact. For those dark-greenies out there, bring your own reusable containers to the store and fill up with what you'll need. You can even bring a measuring cup so you don't have to eyeball it.
Green Tip #423 - Homemade Mother's Day Face Mask
Oatmeal/Yogurt/Honey Recipe: This only takes about three minutes of prep and is made from common household ingredients. Have this mixture and a towel ready to go with her morning breakfast in bed and you'll be mom's favorite. You'll need 1 tablespoon of finely ground oatmeal. 1 tablespoon of live, organic yogurt - no flavored stuff. And a few drops of honey. Add the yogurt to the oatmeal in a small bowl and mix together. You'll want to warm the honey before you add it to the mix. To do this, warm a spoon under hot water for a minute, then add a few drops of honey to the spoon. Mix it all up then you're ready to apply the mask to mom's face. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with several splashes of warm water. Follow with a warm washcloth and moisturizer.
Kitty Litter Mask:
Step 1: Measure 2 tbsp. of natural clay cat litter into a small bowl. If the cat litter is large grain, it may help to break up the clumps first. Simply press the litter firmly with a smooth-bottomed cup or glass to make a fine powder.
Step 2: Stir in the distilled water 1 tbsp. at a time, working the clay into a thick even paste. If you have trouble with a few hard pieces of cat litter, scoop the clay paste into a strainer and press the paste through the mesh with the back of a spoon, eliminating larger pieces.
Step 3: Add one drop of rose essential oil and one drop of chamomile essential oil to the cat litter face mask clay. Stir the mixture well, adding a bit more water if necessary.
Step 4: Squeeze the juice from one fresh lemon into the cat litter face mask mixture to help combat oily skin. Lemon is a natural astringent that helps prevent acne and clean pores without over-drying your skin.
Step 5: Wash your face with warm water and pat dry. Apply the cat litter clay facial evenly to your neck and face and place the cucumber slices over your eyes. Relax for 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water.
